Hello! We are Adam, Jackie, and our two daughters, and welcome to Deaf Sailing | Salt & Light.
A few months ago, we made a decision that many people thought was crazy. We left behind the comfort of a traditional life and moved our family aboard a sailboat.
Why?
Because we wanted something more.
More time together. More adventures. More opportunities to teach our children through real-life experiences. Most importantly, we wanted to follow where God was leading us, even when the path seemed uncertain.
We are a Deaf family navigating life, faith, homeschooling, entrepreneurship, and now the world of sailing. We are far from experts. Every day brings new lessons, unexpected challenges, and moments that test our patience and faith.
Since beginning this journey, we’ve experienced equipment failures, weather challenges, unexpected expenses, and plenty of moments where things did not go according to plan. Yet through it all, God has continued to provide, guide, and remind us why we started.
The name “Salt & Light” comes from Jesus’ words in Matthew 5. Our prayer is simple: wherever we go, whether at anchor in a quiet harbor or crossing open waters, we want our lives to reflect His love and truth.
This blog will be a place where we share:

- Life as a Deaf family traveling the world
- Homeschooling on the water
- Faith during both calm seas and storms
- Behind-the-scenes stories that don’t always make it to social media
- Wins, failures, and everything in between
We don’t know exactly where this journey will take us. Our plans include exploring new coastlines, meeting incredible people, and eventually sailing beyond the United States. But more than destinations, we are excited about the stories God is writing along the way.
